Updated engine bay. Note new alternator. Possibly relocating the battery to passenger rear sometime soon.

Have to yank everything soon to replace the dead 700R4 with a TH350. I want a TKO-600 but that will have to wait.

Added coolant reservoir above block to make filling easier. Hopefully the cooling system is adequate for a few laps at PIR in two weeks.

Next: Fuel lines and electric pump. Notice the fuel filter currently on the firewall...

Switched to a taller air cleaner, added a fuel pressure gauge, installed the new electric choke, added a temperature switch for automatic fan operation, painted the water neck, and replaced the thermostat.

Window tint 35% for the doors and hatch. The guy offered 20% but I thought it would be best to stay within the legal limits.

Race weight: 2,925 lbs. Driver, 1/3 tank, no spare.
With a full tank of gas and no driver it is 2,850 lbs.
Front: 54.4% 1,550 lbs. Rear: 45.6% 1,300 lbs.
With driver and toolbox added it totals 3,050 lbs.
Front: 52.4% 1,600 lbs. Rear: 47.6% 1,450 lbs.

Note: No power steering, no AC.

Enkei Evo 5 wheels 18"x7.5" with 215/35/18 tires. Bit small in the rear but they were the right price.

A scoop or cowl is planned, but the right one is playing hard to get.

03/2009

Finally some room to breathe.

03/2009

New organized plug wires and neatly loomed the other wires.

Time passes...
We are using a Fiero radiator but we have a Camaro radiator ready to go in after the battery is relocated to the rear. A large electric fan is used rather than a mechanical fan because of hood clearance.

New water pump and belt setup, next: cooling.

09/2008

You almost wouldnt know that it isnt stock.

09/2008

The Mazda 4 speed shifter had OD as a button rather than a shifter position. We welded a Camaro shifter assembly on the underside of the transmission tunnel.

09/2008

Engine and transmission in place but still needing some parts before it is road ready.

09/2008

The interior really isnt too terrible to remove for wiring.

09/2008

Initial fitting looks good.

09/2008

RX7 engine bay mostly stripped. I purchased the engine cradle from Granny's Speed Shop.

09/2008

Test ran the engine on the shop floor and could hardly wait.

Potential 'skinnies' for drag racing. These are the stock spares.

Small block Chevy 350 attached to the 700R4. Almost ready to test.

09/2008

New looking torque converter. Remember: It always has one more 'clunk' to go.

09/2008

The Chevy 700R4 with overdrive for highways.

09/2008

This car has one of the lighest hoods I have ever come across. This one is the aluminum version.

09/2008

Passenger side, nothing major but probably enough to keep me from painting.

09/2008

Driver side, relatively clean and straight.

09/2008

The RX7 waiting for me to begin.
